We WISH this were an April Fools’ joke: April 1 snow surveys found that snowpack in the Merced drainage is 2% of average while the snowpack in the Tuolumne drainage is a whopping 7% of average. Since snow surveys began in 1931, there has always been snow present at every survey location on April 1; this year, half of the survey locations had no snow.
Pictured is the Wilma Lake ranger cabin (the survey site is nearby).
