PBS NewsHour’s ScienceScope recently covered a mission Global Underwater Explorer’s Project Baseline participated in last summer in Bermuda. Partnered with Nekton, Project Baseline researched and surveyed deep reefs, corals, algae, sponges, water chemistry, and more during the nearly month-long mission on R/V Baseline Explorer. Divers sampled the “shallows” (0-90m/300ft) while the subs covered the depths (up to 300m/1000ft).
One of the pieces of research coming out of the hundreds of samples and thousands of feet of transects is on coral bleaching and possible coral migration to different depths.
